Administration, Management & Clinical Governance

I have always been a supporter of teamwork and this is reflected in my management style. As administrative senior registrar at the Royal Free I restructured the specialist registrar and clinical research fellow rotas to accommodate the change in junior doctors’ hours. This led to reduction of locum expenses by 40%. While managing the rota for junior medical staff at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital, the locum expenses were reduced by more than 50%. The added responsibilities associated with the administration gave me an awareness of and experience of the particular complexities of leading a group of staff. In such situations, the potential for conflict of interest regarding status, equity and lack of flexibility required the need for fairness, diplomacy and a transparent administrative process. From this experience I know that I can communicate well and work effectively and successfully.

I was elected as Junior Doctors’ Representative at Trust level at the Royal Free Hospital. I worked cohesively with the hospital management and I led a pivotal role in improving efficiency. I was also an active member of the Service Group at the Directorate level at the Royal Free Hospital. I took an active part in service configuration that led the pathways to establish an efficient emergency gynaecology unit. I was a member of the External working group for the Dept. of Health (DoH) in improving working life of doctors. The team constitutes of a chairman of workforce committee, a postgraduate dean, medical directors, representative of lay members, human resources and representatives from Staff Grade/Associate Specialist (SAS). I gained valuable experience in contributing to National Workforce Planning.
